Adit publishes packaged software targeted
at the needs of those responsible for Conservation and Environmental issues within
commercial organisations and statutory authorities.
Adit also undertakes projects to
integrate bespoke and packaged programs with your existing GIS.
Our recording software, AditSite, has been in use since 1994 and during 1995 and 1996
Adit invested heavily in developing a Geographical Information System (GIS) targeted
at the needs of users working with Environmental data. In parallel with this work,
we have developed our mapping product, AditMap.

AditSite
- Interface with GPS
Several
users have expressed an interest in using a handheld GPS for species recording. With
the end of selective availability, a relatively inexpensive GPS unit (about £100) can
give excellent results. Species are recorded as waypoints while out in the field
(sometimes you will need imagination using only a few characters to represent a
species!) and can then be uploaded directly to AditSite back at base.
We have
already developed a basic system working with Garmin receivers, and will look at
other manufacturers in response to demand. We will be developing a facility to
upload track information from the GPS to form the basis of maps in AditMap, and to download the position
of existing records from AditSite to the GPS to
help relocate items when out in the field.
If you
think this would be a useful extension to your copy of AditSite please let us
know, and please tell us which GPS you are using.
