Setup your handheld

• Before setting out on your survey, the habitat classification is set up via your PC




• Common classifications are pre-loaded but the list is open-ended and you can add your own classification




• Download the list to your handheld to start your survey

Start your survey

• Enter a name, choose the habitat classification, position, refresh rate, etc.




• Now start walking (or cycling/driving/kayaking) around your survey area




• When you have finished, stop this survey and the handheld will then confirm the number of points recorded




• At this stage you can choose to start another survey, or return to base and upload the data to your PC

Maintain your surveys

• The maintain survey options lets you check the data, draw the outline, remove unwanted points, complete polygons, etc.




• When you are happy with the data, you can export it as a tab delimited file, a comma delimited file, or as a dbf (commonly used by GIS)
